Tasks in the 3-month “Robotics Challenge” included identifying, locating and inserting connectors. In addition, delicate cables had to be recognized and inserted into the cable slots provided on the plug.
A major challenge is the handling of the cables, whose orientation constantly changes due to their flexible properties. Image processing algorithms are used to calculate the twisting and tilting of the gripped cables, which the robot can compensate for when plugging them in. The robot's force sensors are also used. In addition, a control mechanism for quality assurance is integrated so that the robot continues to work reliably even in the event of an error.
