Taking a Look into Laboratories
Robotics and Automation Technology Lab
Prof. Dr. Tobias Kaupp provides an insight into the Robotics and Automation Technology Lab: here, students can experience practical work – on industrial machines. The corresponding code can be written in simulation. The test whether the programming can also be implemented in real life and whether the sorting machine functions smoothly then follows in the lab.

Laboratory for mobile robotics
In the laboratory for mobile robotics everything revolves around SWOT – this acronym stands for “Schweinfurt” and “Robot”: With this highly manoeuvrable vehicle the team around Prof. Dr. Tobias Kaupp will for the first time take part in the international competition RoboCup@Work. The team had already formed at the beginning of 2020. But both the German Open in April as well as the international competition in Bordeaux in June 2020 were cancelled. Now the new team has enough time to prepare for the follow-up competition in 2021.

Cobot Lab
The newest addition is the Cobot Lab that started off in the winter semester 2020/21. Here the collaboration between human and machine will be paramount.
The term “Cobot” is used to refer to a robot which fulfils a joint task in close collaboration with humans. In contrast to classic industrial robots, this collaboration takes place in close proximity – which poses new challenges for work safety, communication and interaction.
